Mark your calendars for NBEC in February 2011.

This conference will provide an opportunity for secondary school science teachers to hear from some of Canada’s leading bioscience researchers and to learn about activities and programs that will help with their delivery in the classroom. Laboratory workshop sessions will permit participants to gain some experience in performing lab activities that complement the current educational curriculum. Information about academic and career choices for students will be highlighted.

The program will address current research developments in bioethics, biodiversity, biopharmaceuticals, agri-foods, nanotechnology, and many other areas of investigation that fall under the rubric of bioscience. It will also offer information about academic and career opportunities for students.

Confirmed plenary speakers include Bob MacDonald from Quirks and Quarks and Dr. Carol Barash, a reknown Bioethicist. Speakers in each region will highlight cutting edge research in their local area and will highlight advances in such topics as agricultural biotechnology, molecular anthropology and stem cell research.

Scholarships
****Eight scholarships are being offered, 3 by BioBusiness Magazine and 5 by Borden Ladner Gervais to cover the cost of the conference fee. All applicants will be entered into a draw and the 8 winners will be selected randomly on February 1st at 12 pm. The winners will be revealed on this site and their tuition reimbursed.

Registration Fees
TWO day Registration fee= $150 CDN (A single registration can be used by a different teacher each day.)
ONE day Registration fee= $90 CDN
Admission will also be open to the public.

Workshop and tour space is limited to 25 and will be allotted on a first to register in the on-line registration. Registrants who opt for a workshop or tour in any particular time slot must indicate their choice of activity by entering the appropriate code in the space provided on the registration page.
